How to visit Ludwig Castles

Ludwig Castles are situated in Bavaria, a beautiful region in the South of Germany, near the border with Austria.

As you can see in the map on this post Ludwig Castles spread in a relatively large area.

If you don't have a lot of time it is absolutely recommended to hire a car to move around.

It is also very enjoyable to drive in the area, particularly along the scenic Romantic Road that connects most of the highlights of Bavaria.

If you are not arriving in Bavaria by car, the nearest airports will be either Munich or Innsbruck, both around two hours away from the area.

Where would be better to be based to visit Ludwig Castles?

We recommend Fussen.

Fussen is a beautiful mountain village near the Austrian border at walking distance from Neuschwanstein Castle.

It is also a good base for day trips to Linderhof and Herrenchiemsee.

Consider at least a day for visiting each castle and possibly an extra day to visit the mountain town of Fussen that is certainly worth a visit.
